Why

Release Build ran on every main push, held a hosted macOS slot for about 100 minutes each time, and queued PR tests behind it. The maintainer's M4 Pro is now a repo-level runner (tablepro-release), and builds the archive far faster. #3545 made setup-xcode work there without sudo.

Change

  • Triggers: nightly at 19:00 UTC on main, push to release/**, dispatch with runner: self-hosted | github. Main pushes no longer build.
  • Changes (Release): dispatch always builds; a nightly diffs against the last green nightly's head (gh api); a release/** push keeps its diff and builds when it created the branch (github.event.created), so the cut commit gets a build.
  • version.py counts push, schedule and dispatch runs on a commit, each of which builds that exact commit. A PR run still does not count. The walk is unchanged.
  • ci.md, RELEASING.md (beta.1 cuts at a commit a green nightly or dispatch built) and the release skill.

Verified

test_version.py covers the event filter; actionlint and shellcheck pass. Two dispatches passed on mac-mini-m4pro, with the Mac busy with other builds (load 25 to 180), in minutes:

Run Setup App Plugins Packaging Job
39164434294 4.2 22.8 5.4 2.1 34.7
39167146739 1.0 14.5 3.6 1.6 20.9

The second checkout ran git clean -ffdx, so each build is clean.
